On Facebook we will be offering a daily wellness tip on a wall entitled “Ten Second Health Tips” and that concept will be replicated on Twitter. Nitrates and Your Health

Thursday, August 5th, 2010

Nitrogen is a critically important building block for proteins, enzymes, vitamins and even DNA but if oversupplied there are several associated health issues. There are two forms of nitrogen, ammonium nitrogen and nitrate nitrogen but it is the nitrate form that can be problematical. When this form of nitrogen is ingested via food and drinking water it can be converted in the gut to nitrites, which then combine with hemoglobin to form methemoglobin. This compound restricts the capacity of the blood to carry oxygen and oxygen levels at the cellular level can be compromised. Professor Otto Warburg won his Nobel Prize for his discovery that anaerobism is a principle root cause of cancer. (more…)

The Beauty of Simplicity – An Interview with Kevin McDonald

Friday, June 11th, 2010

Recently I travelled home to NZ for a family wedding. During my visit I was shopping at a health food shop and purchased a little book called “Learn to Listen”. I read the book and was fascinated with the content. When checking the author’s details I found that he lived just a few minutes from my parents’ home in Taranaki. I called to see if I could schedule a last minute interview on the morning of the wedding and the conversation below is the result of that meeting. (more…)

Finding Your Feet – Using Your Soles as a Cleansing Tool

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

The Chinese call the feet the second kidney in reference to their role in detoxification. The feet contain over 2000 pores, which can serve as pathways for both the uptake of nutrients and removal of waste products and contaminants. When your socks smell it can be evidence of the body detoxing via the feet. In fact, the more they smell the higher your toxic burden. Conversely, your feet can be used to fast track nutrient uptake. The regular soaking of the feet in a footbath with warm water and two tablespoons of magnesium oil, for example, has been shown to be more effective at (more…)

This week I am in Taree in NSW giving a four day certificate course. During the last break I was approached by a woman who had attended one of my courses previously. She noticed a strange response from her pet cat following the treatment. (more…)

Chia – Anatomy of a Superfood

Friday, February 12th, 2010

Chia SeedsHippocrates, the father of modern medicine, suggested that our food should be our medicine and our medicine our food. The profundity of that statement is now quantified on a regular basis as science unravels the mind-boggling array of protective biochemicals found in fresh food. It is not just the new understanding of the medicinal value of food that supports the founder’s proclamations. A host of other nutritional findings have revealed that there really is no substitute for whole foods. We have isolated key protective players like beta carotene, alpha tocopherol, lycopene and folic acid and turned them into popular supplements, to compensate for what is missing in the food. However, recent research has revealed that the supplements simply don’t perform like the real thing (more…)
